Harry's Corner

Hi. My name is Harry Schriebman, you may have received my emails on items which could effect the Bayside. I've lived in Mariner Cove for 26 years. In the late 90's we felt the Town was not paying enough attention to Mariner Cove so twenty residents gathered at a meeting at our house in 1998 to form the Mariner Cove Neighborhood Association. Rosa Thomas was the first President. It is a voluntary organization, about 200 households of the 405 homes in M.C. have become members. Mary O'Malley and I shared co-president for a number of years. I attend many of the town meetings, such as Town Council, Planning Commission, Flood Control and Recreation Commission meetings. I use the e-mail to keep you informed of what is going on that may effect Mariner Cove. I will post e-mails here after sending them to you.

Staff met today with David Spease, Landscape Architect, to discuss the renovation of the playground equipment to meet the ADA requirements and standards of the California Playground Safety Commission. Following discussions with Town Manager Jay Tashiro, Public Works Director David Bracken, Public Works Superintendent David Montero and Director of Recreation and Leisure Services Jackie Branch, it was established that the finished product could not exceed $240,000 (the amount of the 2000 Resources Bond Act).

Spease wil prepare a sketch of the proposed playground and play equipment with Little Tikes Manufacturing Co. for the Community Meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Hall Council Chambers. Director of Planning/Assistant Town Manager Bob Pendoley will review the proposal prior to the meeting.

Hoping for acceptance (with minor tweaking, if necessary), the program will be presented to the Larkspur School District Board, followed by a meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission. It is anticipated these meetings can be culminated in the 2nd or 3rd week of May.

The construction drawings with plans and specs will then go to Town Council for authorization to send out to bid. About 30 days later, the bids are opened, then all components (insurance coverage, bonding, etc) have to be completed by the Town Attorney before the selected construction company can order the play equipment. At this point, the completion time line is six to eight months out (late October-late November).

When will the playground be closed? Spease stated 'not until late Fall'.

FOR THE COMMUNITY MEETINGS AND FOLLOW THROUGH: Please send representatives from the Larkspur School District to join the representatives from the Parks and Recreation Commission and Mariner Cove Association to steer this through to the final acceptance by Town Council.

If you have questions, please call me at 927-5074.
